Penunjukan Gibran sebagai Plt Presiden tertuang dalam Keputusan Presiden (Keppres) Nomor 34 Tahun 2024 tentang Penugasan Wakil Presiden Melaksanakan Tugas Presiden. Keppres ini ditandatangani oleh Prabowo pada 16 Desember 2024 dan berlaku mulai tanggal tersebut hingga Prabowo kembali ke Tanah Air.
